London: Day 6 (Friday, April 19)
Our last day in London, and the sunniest and most beautiful day yet. I can't believe I bought new raincoats for all of us in preparation for the trip--too bad I cut all the tags off already!
Andrew got up early and went out to get pastries for breakfast. Yes, you read that correctly. Jet lag plus the jet lag he hadn't gotten over from his trip to LA right before we left for London resulted in Andrew being the first one up in the morning, every single morning of our trip. He got up, showered, and then went out to have a coffee and get some pastries. London Andrew.
We chose a new part of the city to explore this morning, our last morning, and walked to Regent's Park. It was a beautiful walk through Fitzrovia, and we passed a house where Virginia Woolf lived for several years. The park--like all the parks here--was full of spectacular tulips and other flowers, manicured perfectly. We walked to Queen Mary's Rose Garden (the roses aren't blooming yet) and recreated a photo Andrew and I had taken of the two of us thirteen years ago. There was a playground near the exit of the park, and L&G ran around for a while. It was a perfect morning.
We had lunch in Camden, sitting in an outdoor booth of a pub called Edinboro Castle. Dad and I finally tried a "pie"--steak and cheddar baked in puff pastry. It was delicious.
Next we strolled through the crowds of Camden Market. A food stall selling "Dutch pancakes" was too cute to pass up, and L&G each ate a plate of five small pancakes drizzled with Nutella. We bought a couple of small souvenirs in the market stalls before escaping the crowds and taking a bus back to our neighborhood. We stopped at a grocery store to pick up some candy and then went home for a break.
We had big plans for tonight--dinner at Brasserie Zedel, and then Aladdin. Our seats for Aladdin were spectacular--six rows from the stage--and the show was amazing. We all loved it. There was even a flying carpet. It was a perfect end to our trip.
The end of our trip! It went so fast. Trips always do. We have lots to remember from this one. I love seeing the kids having fun in a big city, and they were such incredible travelers. I think they'll remember being with Gra and Pop-Pop nonstop for an entire week--they were attached to them the whole time. We had some amazing food and gave our best effort to seeing London. It was a great trip. I'll post pics once we're back home.
