Wednesday, April 1 - Sunday, April 5: The Rest of Spring Break & Easter
The kids had a great remainder of Spring Break this week. They continued to junk journal, and I joined them each day after work. Lucia studied precalc; Greta did some sewing. We began watching the second season of The Last Thing He Told Me. We went to the club for dinner on Thursday, where we engaged in a lively conversation about all the evidence for why Andrew is either a fugitive or the father of a second family in Peru.
They also got out all of their My Little Ponies, the magic of a full week at home taking over.
Friday, Andrew went to a Pirates game. The girls and I went to Shake Shack for tiramisu milkshakes, and when we came home, I showed them all of my Skipping Town volumes since they'd been asking for stories about their baby/toddler years. While in the attic, they decided to get out all of their Shopkins, and then they began setting them all up in my office. They were immersed in this return to their once-beloved collection. Meanwhile, I took the opportunity to begin what will ultimately need to be a massive cleaning and cleanout of the attic rooms. The entire house is a mess with the renovation, but at least I can work on cleaning out the guest room and sewing room.
When Andrew got home at 10pm, he expected to find us all (mostly me) winding down for the day and getting ready for bed, or at least relaxing in front of the TV. Instead, he found us all in the attic, in various states of manic episode--the kids hyper-fixated on their Shopkins, me madly filling bags with donations and trash. He was alarmed, to say the least, and retreated to the basement.
Eventually, I closed the door to the guest room and the kids cleaned up their Shopkins, lamenting that this was the last fully free day and that Spring Break was over. They truly need another week. I wish they could just stay home. There are so many more fun things they want to do--I hate that they have to return to the stress and busyness of school.
Saturday, Andrew and I took Lucia for her passport renewal appointment; then the girls went to track practice, and I took Nutmeg to the vet for her annual checkup. Then we all (pets included) bundled into the car to go to Connellsville for Easter weekend.
Mom made sloppy joe's and St. Joseph cakes for dinner on Saturday, a huge treat. Lucia worked on precalc with Dad and Greta practiced piano with Mom. Then we all gathered round to watch half of The Ten Commandments, Mom's request, which the kids seemed, surprisingly, invested in.
I set out the kids' Easter baskets for Sunday morning--two Unicornos, some Trader Joe's candy, a set of press-on nails, a stamp punch for junk journaling, and a Big Fugg (IYKYK, and if you DK, it's best if you stay blissfully unaware). Then we went to church. No pictures outside this year since it was rainy and freezing. We hid eggs for the kids inside, and then had Easter lunch: stuffed shells, ham, roasted potatoes, and brocoli, with sponge cake for dessert. After a little more Ten Commandments viewing, we packed ourselves up and headed home. It was a great Easter weekend.
And that's a wrap for Spring Break.
