Summer: NH, Sat. 7/10

Slow start to a beautiful day. The kids woke up late then stayed in bed reading for a long time. Then we read a lot of Harry Potter while the kids ate breakfast. Then they did more AG doll photos in the woods while I helped Andrew do some cleaning out of the garage. Then the girls and I made stick vases for wildflowers, a nature craft we'd found in a library book before coming here.

After lunch, we went to the pond. The kids had fun transferring themselves from inflatable to inflatable; I set up a challenge for them to make ten transfers between them. Then they began a wild game of 'pirate,' trying to pull each other off various inflatables. They had fun. I was worried that Lucia was getting a little squeamish about the pond, now that she's a tween, but today she was all in.

We ordered pizza for dinner, then took a walk down the road to see a dead snake. The kids carried canes they'd found in the garage and scratched OMG BEWARE SNAKE in the dirt around the snake's carcass. Final activity of the day: a fire in the firepit.

The days are full here. One week down.
