Summer: Fri., 7/6

We took it easy today and had a day at home. Andrew went for a long run even before the kids got up, and then made pancakes. The girls and I read some books, played Chinese checkers, and the girls played with Shopkins. There was some occasional Frisbee throwing with Andrew, and we started some bike-riding activities. Andrew took the pedals off the bike we have here and tried to get L&G to scoot along and balance. Marginal success.

We ran a couple of errands in town. L&G ran around outside with Carmel Judy and Wee Wee. Those two have been the focus for the past couple of days, becoming even more central to their playing than usual. Today, Carmel Judy and Wee Wee were having a playdate, and played with Shopkins. There was a lot of imaginative work going on there.

I managed to squeeze in my annual canning this morning and made nine jars of strawberry jam. I bought a canner last year, which helps a lot. Thanks to the jam, by the time we leave NH, we'll successfully have used or eaten all the strawberries we picked--not a small accomplishment.

Tonight three cousins drove up from their home in MA for dinner. We set tables up behind the house so we could have the view of Mt. Ascutney as the sun set. The temperature today was actually chilly--we needed jeans and sweaters by the middle of dinner. We built a fire in the fire pit after we ate and made s'mores; then L&G went to bed and the adults sat around the fire and chatted before the cousins headed home. A lovely outdoor evening.

Tomorrow is our last full day here. None of us are ready to leave.
