Summer: Sat., 7/28 - Sun., 7/29

Sat., 7/28

Departure day from Bethany Beach. I got up early and got donuts from Sandy Pony, and then it was time to pack up. Packing up is always more crazy than it seems like it will be, and even though we'd done a lot of packing the night before, we still had a lot to do, and not everything fit in the car. We sent a few things to PA with Mom and Dad. We'd hoped to get out to the beach for an hour, but that just wasn't happening; so we took a quick walk just to say goodbye to the ocean, and then we were all on our way.

The drive home was fine, not too trafficky. L&G watched a few episodes of Just Add Magic. We got hoagies at Wawa for lunch (L&G now hate all fast food, but they liked the hoagies). It was nice to be home, though the laundry pile was epic. L&G got out all the Cabbage Patches and then set up an art studio in Greta's room, which, as far as I could tell, involved lots of cutting up of printer paper. They're glad to be home.

What a fantastic beach week. Andrew spent the rest of the evening looking at real estate listings and making a spreadsheet to see if it's realistic to become Bethany Beach homeowners / landlords.

Sun., 7/29

Everyone slept in. L&G spent the morning dressing up and playing outside in the play house. Andrew helped them hose down the play house, and they did a pretty thorough cleaning while I cleared the driveway with the leaf blower and then raked leaves out from around the landscaping. I went grocery shopping. We had lunch.

Later in the afternoon, we took the girls and their bikes up to the reservation for more bike-riding lessons. This time, they really took off. We spent about an hour up there, and by the end they were both riding independently. Greta is more confident and steady than Lucia, riding for very long stretches by herself. She is so, so pleased with herself. We saw lots of dogs taking walks; Greta is even more obsessed than usual, and she looked at every dog and spoke directly to it, saying with fervor: "YOU ARE CUTE!!!" Lucia is getting there, too, with the bike riding. True to her personality, she is determined to master it. Later, at home, she practiced in the driveway, and can now get going on her own. Both of them are going to be riding well by the time we go to PA.

After bike riding, we went to the pool for a little while, and then went home. Andrew grilled up some hamburgers and hot dogs. Even though our beach vacation is over, it's nice to know we still have a month of summer left.
