Summer: Wed., 8/8 - Fri., 8/10
Wed., 8/8
I took the girls to the zoo in the morning to stay out of the cleaners' way, and we had a lot of fun, even though it was blazing hot. We went right from there to the pool, where we ate lunch and swam for a while. Once we got home, the girls played in the basement and I made dinner, and then our babysitter arrived so I could leave and go meet Andrew, Mom, and Dad in the city. Mom and Dad were in for a few days to see shows and go to museums, and they'd waited in line to get us tickets for Shakespeare in the Park. We met at a pizza place for a quick bite, and then headed into Central Park to see a musical rendition of Twelfth Night--always so much fun to be at the Delacorte Theater, and remember all the many plays we've seen there over the past twenty (!) years. We'd actually seen Twelfth Night (a more traditional program) together in 2002, before Andrew came along. It was a fun evening.
Thurs., 8/9
After all the busyness of yesterday, we had a more leisurely day today. L&G brought out all their American Girl stuff and played with that for a while. We read The BFG. The girls rode their bikes around the driveway. We went to the pool in the afternoon. After dinner, we met Andrew at the train station and we all drove to the Dairy Queen in a nearby town for Blizzards.
Greta has started exclaiming, "WELL! THAT'S JUST JOYFUL!" whenever something pleases her. She says it in a loud, affected, almost British-inflected voice, very dramatic and overdone, which never fails to crack up Lucia, who then joins in, and there are several minutes of both of them screaming "THAT'S JUST JOYFUL!!!" and laughing hysterically. This has gone on quite a bit today.
Oh--and I sewed all the animals. Finally. L&G were thrilled.
Fri., 8/10
My bike was ready to be picked up this morning, so I drove out to Summit to pick it up. Andrew was working from home, so I didn't have to drag the girls along. L&G were in their own world today, playing mostly in the basement, and we barely saw them. Late in the day, when Andrew was finished working, we went to the Reservation and took a two-mile bike ride, me riding for the first time with L&G. It was great. So much fun to ride together. Then we went to the pool. A food truck selling wood-fired pizzas was there tonight (food trucks come to the pool a few times during the summer), so we had our dinner after our swim. It was JOYFUL!!!!, according to our loud, loud, loud daughters, when they bought ice cream pops after we ate.
We've decided to go to Connellsville a day earlier than we'd planned (HI MOM AND DAD!!!), so we cleaned up the house tonight and got packed up. Our next summer adventure awaits.
