Quarantine: Fri. 3/27
Friday feels like a relief, the end of homeschooling for the week. I'm dreading the beginning of all the new procedures and requirements next week. Maybe it'll feel less overwhelming once we get more information. Right now all we have is a long letter from the district that feels, to me, like a long list of PLATFORMS we'll be using. Or might be using. How am I supposed to keep track of what's where??? This is going to replace online grocery shopping as my top anxiety.
This morning we paused our homeschooling to have our family portrait taken by a local photographer who's offering porch portraits as a way to get some work in lieu of the usual big events she photographs. We've actually never had family pictures taken before, and it was a lot of fun. Farrah was in the pics too. Can't wait to see how they turned out!
The kids couldn't wait to be done with their schoolwork today so they could get back to the basement and work on their LOL dollhouse. They hot-glued and created for over three hours, making furniture and tiny books and bookshelves and a bathroom and a swimming pool. Finally they decided to go outside. They played in the yard for the rest of the afternoon. It was a gorgeous day.
Before dinner, we took a family walk, and then had a Zoom call with Mom, Dad, Molly, and Luca. Then tacos for dinner and an episode of Little House. A weird one tonight--an elder in Walnut Grove fakes her own death to draw her wayward children home for her wake. Once everyone has gathered, she pulls off her black veil and--SURPRISE!--reveals to everyone that she's alive.
The kids are getting ready for bed, which means--it's almost time to watch another episode (or two) of Tiger King. We are obsessed. We watched the first two episodes last night and can't stop talking about them. It's the absolutely perfect show for this moment, when norms and assumptions have been thrown out the window and the craziest thing you can possibly think of has shown up to take their place.
