Summer: Tues., 7/16 - Wed., 7/17
Tuesday, 7/16
Museum day! For several years now, Mom and Dad and I and the girls have gone to the Carnegie Museum of Natural History during our summer visit. It always seems like a big undertaking, but we made it happen once again. It was a great day. We got there at 10:30, and there was almost no one else there for the duration of our 2 1/2 hour stay. We hit all our favorites: the miniature rooms, the lion/camel diorama, the gems/minerals, Hall of North American Mammals, African mammals, Bird Hall, Polar World, and the Native American area. We saw the insect collections. (We walked briefly through the dinosaurs, but L&G continue to be 98% uninterested.)
We got home for a late lunch at 2pm, and after some down time, we went to the Soisson House. The girls and I rode our bikes there. Mom and the kids played hide and seek in the house, and I just lay on the floor, willing good energy into the house and also just soaking in the peaceful spirit of the place. Then the girls and I took a little bike ride around the neighborhood.
We met Andrew for dinner at Agave. The kids were amazed at the enormous drinks we all got--a giant margarita for me, and huge beer steins for Andrew, Mom, and Dad.
After the kids went to bed, the rest of us watched the HBO documentary about Elizabeth Holmes. A full, fun day.
Wednesday, 7/17
Mom and Dad had a diabetes nutrition class this morning, so the girls and I were on our own for a bit after Andrew left for work. First L&G rode their bikes around the block a few times by themselves, a novelty. Then we brought the Glamour Girls stuff down from the attic, and they played with that until Mom and Dad got home.
After lunch, Mom took the girls (and me) shopping for school clothes. Target was first, where we found a lot of cute things. Greta is way easier to shop for than Lucia, but both girls found things they like. Then we went to Gabe's, where we found a ton of clothes, many on clearance. We even found some Dollie & Me outfits, with matching doll and girl dresses. Trying everything on took forever, but L&G were uncomplaining. They both came away from the day with huge bags of new things, a few warm-weather things to start off the school year, and some fall things to go from there. We had fun.
By the time we got home Molly and Luca had arrived, and the kids ran off immediately to play. A water fight ensued a bit later, with the hose, cups, and water balloons. I went to Bud's to pick up pizzas for dinner. Andrew came home. The kids had "giggle time" and then went to sleep.
