LITTER VISIT DAY!!! Finally, it was here. We've been waiting forever to meet these pups. Our appointment was at 10:30am, so after a quick breakfast we headed out to Hillsborough Township, NJ, into the rural hinterlands. A labradoodle greeted us when we got out of the car and led us to the office area, and then we were taken to a little fenced-in play area. And then--the worker brought in a laundry bin full of puppies. Nine of them. Six apricot and three chocolate, all tiny. The puppies immediately began seething around us, and we sat down so they could crawl into our laps and we could hold them and play with them. THEY WERE SO CUTE. There wasn't nearly enough time to nuzzle every one as much as we wanted, because we had a job to do: make sure we took a picture of me holding each one up, so we could both see the color of its collar and tell whether it was a boy or a girl. (We had to have a clear picture of them all so we could talk about them later and make our choices.)

It was puppy heaven. They were so sweet. Lots of angling for attention and lots of nipping at our hair, shirts, friendship bracelets, shoes. We went in with the assumption that we'd choose an apricot pup, but the chocolate ones were so sweet and adorable and cuddly that we ended up with two apricots and two chocolates in our top four choices.

Seriously, we'll be happy--nay, joyous--with whichever one we get. Trying to "rank" them when we got home was almost ridiculous, because they are all perfect. Now we just have to wait and find out which one we get.

In the meantime, we're talking about names constantly. We haven't found one yet. I'm afraid Greta and I are not going to get the name we want, which is Shumai. Ah well. This puppy cannot get here soon enough.

Well, that's not totally true, because we have a LOT of preparation to do between now and 8/31, when the puppy comes home. We stopped at PetSmart and bought a few toys, but Andrew and I were overwhelmed by the completely foreign landscape of pet supplies. I felt exactly like I did the first time I went to Babies R Us, trying to register for my baby shower gifts when I was pregnant with Lucia, and not having a clue what I actually needed, what brands were good, what size was appropriate, how many I'd need, etc etc. It's a new world. At home, I placed my first order with Chewy.com, which I guess is the Amazon of pet supplies. There's so much to learn.

We're talking about the puppies constantly. We made our final ranking this morning and emailed the breeder. Now we wait. We talked more about names--my old baby books are back out! We also revamped Greta's bedroom--the carpet we ordered for her arrived yesterday, so we took out her old carpet, put in the new one, rearranged her furniture, and did a big cleanout. It looks so cozy and nice now. A perfect improvement for the school year. Lucia's new carpet should arrive tomorrow or Tuesday so she'll be getting a revamp soon too.

The girls were so excited about their "new rooms" that they decided they'd have a sleepover in each other's rooms when they were done. So tonight Lucia is sleeping in Greta's room. Greta is the host of the sleepover, so she got to pick a TV show to watch beforehand; she picked a few episodes of Liv & Maddie. Then they took baths and got ready for bed. They both have couch cushions and sleeping bags on the floor, and a zillion stuffed animals. It's pretty cute.

What will our puppy be doing while I blog each night? Will it be snuggled in my lap? Will it be tearing wildly through the house? Will it be destroying something in another room? Will it be nestled on the couch? I HAVE NO IDEA.
