Summer: Sat., 8/3 - Tues., 8/6

Okay, I'm a little bit behind, but I WILL CATCH UP NOW.

Saturday, 8/3

Beach departure day. Packed up all our stuff and were out of the house by ten. Andrew, the girls, and I lingered in town for a bit, eating crepes, but decided to head home instead of going to the lighthouse as we'd planned. It felt strange still being there when everyone else had left. But it's so close to us we know we'll be back for a weekend visit in the off-season. There's so much there to explore.

Greta was very distraught to be separated from Gra and Pop-Pop, and from the beach. She declared that she's going to live in Cape May someday.

We watched Descendants 3 in the evening, the new and final film in the trilogy. These movies are so over the top that I can't help but love them as much as the kids do.

Sunday, 8/4

A getting-back-to-zero day. Grocery shopping, laundry. The kids played outside and inside. Just before dinner, Andrew left for a business trip to London. Lucia was very sad. We watched Chopped and had dinner.

Oh--and we told the girls we're getting a puppy. Andrew wanted to take the sting out of his departure. L&G are beyond excited.

Monday, 8/5

The kids' first day of Fiber Arts Camp, 9 till noon. They loved it. Lucia's been doing sewing classes for over a year, but this was Greta's first experience in this studio. A friend came home afterward for lunch and a playdate. They played with all the Cabbage Patches. These three girls have like twenty American Girls between them, but the thirty-year-old vintage dolls were the main focus. All I could hear from inside the house were various dolls erupting into hysterical sobs. They were really into it.

Late in the afternoon, we went to the pool. It wasn't very crowded, and L&G really got into the zone of playing, and we ended up staying till 6:30pm. These summer days are far too few. Trying to seize every moment.

There is lots of squealing intermittently throughout the day whenever one of us remembers we're getting a puppy soon. We all want the puppy NOW.

Tuesday, 8/6

Fiber Arts Camp. Library. About an hour of reading library books, Lucia on the couch, Greta sprawled on the floor. Playing at home. Brief pool visit (not too warm today). Just a summer day that tripped along lazily but busily. I let them watch several episodes of Liv & Maddie after dinner, because it was a YES kind of day.

Speaking of YES, I'm trying to talk Andrew into more than one puppy. He hasn't broken yet, but what if I just went to the breeder while he's away and brought home two available puppies? It's not like he'd make us return one. Maybe we should put it to a family vote. I'm saying this because the girls are already asking whether the puppy will be sad to leave its mother, and its siblings, and from what I've read, the answer is, horribly, yes it will be sad. The separation will be traumatic. I am not prepared for a sad puppy. It might be less sad if it's with a sibling.
