Summer: Thurs. 7/2 (NH)
A quintessential NH day, or, as the kids said, it was a "day of swimming." We started the day at the pond, with the kids of course going into the pond in their clothes. Greta was determined to catch a frog and kept at it for ages, trying lots of different strategies. And she finally did catch one, and it stayed in her net long enough for me to get a picture. She was thrilled. Lucia got out of the pond at some point during all that and read a Fox Trot book in a chair by the water.
After lunch, and some lunch-dessert (ie strawberries with Cool Whip and mocha ice cream from a local dairy), we went to the creek, the part with the swimming hole. We all waded in, and Andrew got all the way in. We saw a handful of crayfish, and some tiny fish. The girls and I hiked down the creek a little ways until Greta fell and hit her shin on a rock.
Farrah gamely waded in the creek, but she was less than pleased when she waded into the swimming hole so far that her belly got wet. She was generally suspicious of the whole creek endeavor today.
Back at the house, we had some more dessert (it's vacation), and the kids played with Legos. Andrew got out some electric hedgetrimmers and did some yardwork. I read.
Then the kids went back to the pond with their life jackets and did some actual swimming, going back and forth across the pond. Andrew got in too and pulled out some of the lilypads.
Andrew upset Greta tonight because he took Farrah off her tether without keeping her leash on, and she wouldn't let us catch her, and Greta became hysterical because she was terrified Farrah would run away and get hit by a car. It took a while to get all that sorted. Farrah of course came inside once we held open the door and lured her with some Beggin' Strips, but still. The leash needs to stay. This puppy is FAST and--clearly--not yet trained. Flaunting her training, to be honest. Reveling in the freedom of not being able to be caught.
As you might see in some of my pictures, it's increasingly difficult for me to get a photo of the kids without their breaking into ridiculous poses.
Dinner was leftovers. We lit the fire pit for s'mores. It was an active, good, tiring day.
